Thresholds are transitional portals that provide access from one world to another. A simple door connects what we call the OUTSIDE with what we create as INSIDE. The way we take this step can greatly affect how we feel within the space. A home that makes that movement gentle, easy, interconnected and beautiful is one where people can immediate feel at home; safe yet still one with the landscape and larger world. Multiple views of the garden and features beyond can be easily seen and enjoyed, from all over the house, during the natural movement through the day.

The geometry behind this design is multi dimensional, as it combines the classic ‘Squaring the Circle’ (a pattern where a circle and square of equal area enjoy the same centre, and merge the finite and infinite as one field), four Golden Spirals, a Square Root of 2 Grid and a resonant circle wave anchored in the centre. All of these forms sit well with and within each other, and generate a simple but beautifully harmonic floor plan, which provides all a small family might need. Corner windows, which are actually sliding doors, can open the house to invite and bring in Nature, and also let the house and its occupants breathe out to connect at the same time. The addition of four cardinal bay windows and access doors enhance this effect to provide an overall feeling of grounded-ness and contentment.

This home is perfect for a couple, or a small family who wish to manifest a well proportioned structure, with intelligent use of materials and geometric forms – all working together to provide a wonderful interconnectivity between the inside and outside worlds.
